Black Jewel Reborn is a remake of Oscar Selestini’s original 2017 PC release. According to the game’s Kickstarter, and Oscar helped Michael Mrozek and his team on a few other projects (one we’ll get to shortly), they offered to port Black Jewel to the Mega Drive. However, according to Michael, “after transferring the original graphics to the Sega [Mega Drive], we realized that the game looks washed-out and lacks of details. And also the game lacked the ‘drive’ the Mega Drive is famous for.” Thus, Black Jewel was reborn in this new release, which promises to bring the classic-feeling side-scrolling hack and slash not only to the Mega Drive, but also to the NES, SNES, and Game Boy. The Mega Drive version seems to be the priority, so that’s what should be hitting first, but it’s not set in stone yet that the finished game will for certain make it out this year.
